Erick woke me up in the middle of the night to ask me whether I had heard the “bump.”  And then he gestured out the window, “Look at all of them!”

Standing feet away from our window was a small herd of white-tail deer.  They were eyeing the corn I had left the previous morning for the turkeys.  

Sensing us, they stood still, sniffing at the air; wide-eyed and curious, but ever so cautious.
