I heard back today from the Grand Rapids Museum said to have received the original Grand Traverse Stone(s) in the late nineteenth century.  It was reported these stones were declared forgeries and subsequently lost, but today I learned they were categorized under a different name and may be located in the museum archives.  We’re waiting to find out when we can see them, but are hoping to get down to GR sometime this week (while the girls are on break).

In addition to the tablets found at Old Mission, there are other tablets with similar hieroglyphs.  These will be of particular interest especially as they may pertain to the mound-builder culture.

For now, I’m still reveling in our state’s remarkable history.
